Our BCAC can educate and help you with your TRICARE-related inquiries.

Patient Travel Assistant

As part of the Prime Travel Benefit, our Patient Travel Assistant can coordinate the reimbursement of reasonable travel expenses for qualified medical appointments located more than 100 miles from Fort Drum.  To inquire about the Prime Travel Benefit or to initiate travel, contact the Patient Travel Assistant at 315-772-2211

Your trip may qualify for reimbursement if you are enrolled in the TRICARE Prime or TRICARE Prime Remote for Active Duty Family Members, are enrolled for health care in Guthrie Ambulatory Health Care Clinic, and:

  • You, as the patient, are NOT an active duty service member (ADSM)
  • You are assigned to a Primary Care Manager (PCM) in Guthrie Army Health Care Clinic
  • Your PCM refers you for non-emergency, medically necessary care covered by TRICARE
    • A trip for health services not covered by TRICARE does not qualify for reimbursement
  • You have a referral to a specialty care provider who is more than 100 miles (one way) from the PCM’s office
    • The patient travel office determines the distance for program qualification
  • There is no suitable specialty care provider within 100 miles of your PCM to provide the referred care
    • This includes military, network, or non-network TRICARE-authorized providers

Non-Medical Attendant (NMA)

Travel for an approved NMA may qualify for the Prime Travel Benefit.
  • The patient’s trip must qualify for the Prime Travel Benefit and the NMA must travel with the patient on the qualified trip.
  • The NMA must be a parent, spouse, other adult family member (age 21 years or older), or a legal guardian.
    • Is the patient age 18 or older?  If yes, then the referring or treating provider must verify in writing that the NMA is medically necessary for the patient’s trip.
  • You must submit all your itemized travel receipts, including expenses less than $75.00.
    • TRICARE will not reimburse travelers for the same expense (e.g., shared expenses like lodging or car rental)

Active Duty Service Member (ADSM)

If you are an ADSM and are traveling as the patient:
  • The Prime Travel Benefit will NOT apply
  • Your unit will manage your travel per AR 40-400, Chapter 2, 2-6,(d).
If you are an ADSM and are traveling as the NMA:
  • Is the patient an ADSM?  If yes, then it is the unit’s responsibility to manage their travel (see above)
  • If the patient is enrolled in TRICARE Prime and is not an ADSM?  If yes, then the patient’s trip may qualify for the Prime Travel Benefit.  Contact the Patient Travel Assistant at 315-772-2211.

Debt Collection Assistance Officer (DCAO)

Our DCAO helps resolve debt collections due to unpaid TRICARE claims. The debt must be in collections or listed on your credit report.
